GUYS & GALS GOLF CLUB

The Country Roads Guys and Gals Golf Club is very active. No matter what the weather has in store, there is always time for golf.  Our club has approximately 270 members and we welcome more.  Meetings are every Monday morning at 8 a.m. in the Ballroom.

We have six golf courses to choose from each week. Every two weeks we do a Guys & Gals Fun Golf on Saturdays and once a month we play at the Yuma Golf & Country Club. Through our volunteer Course Coordinators, we are able to play these courses at preset preferred times and at reduced rates. In November there is a Thanksgiving

Turkey shoot and in February the Shoot for Chocolates.

The big golf event of the year is the CAN/AM Net Challenge & BBQ in January.  If the Canadians win, then the Americans serve the BBQ, and if the Americans are the winners, then the Canadians serve the BBQ.  Here in Country Roads our two countries are like one, we compete, party and treat each other the same.

In February we generally take a two-day trip  to Emerald Canyon in Parker, AZ.

While Country Roads does not have a golf course, we do have putting greens and a golf cage that can be used for practice by residents.

Join us on Mondays at 8 a.m. to learn all about the Club happenings and how to sign up for the golf courses that we play.  Membership in the Club is $25 for the season which includes participation in the end-of- season golf tournament and banquet.  Another option is that you can pay $5 a month (if you are here for a short time) and $1 per course per person for in-the-park guest(s).  Come and join the Club for great golf in the Yuma area.

Due to a large number of Spanish-speaking people in the community surrounding our park, Country Roads has an active Spanish Club of approximately 30 members.  The sessions are conversational with some grammar.  We teach the basic needs of the language:  for example, greetings, the weather, how to tell time, going to the store, going to the bank, at the airport, at the restaurant, at the hotel, etc.  We practice what we learn, and we do a lot of repetitions.  We laugh a lot and we have fun learning a new language.

  • Monday is Introduction, no or little knowledge of Spanish required.

  • Tuesday is Intermediate, conversational Spanish only, mostly Spanish is spoken.

  • Wednesday is Advance Introduction which requires some knowledge of Spanish.

  • Thursday is a Practice Session which is informal.  We help one another to learn Spanish.

  • All the sessions are in the Mojave Room from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

The facilitators are: Bertie Caissie for the Introduction Session; Rheal Caissie and Lorraine Tremblay for the Advance Introduction.  We have three fluent Spanish-speaking assistants: Rosa Sandoval, Raquel Rodriquez and Stewart Lang.

WOODSHOP CLUB

The woodshop was organized early in the history of Country Roads by a few woodworking enthusiasts.  It has expanded from a small room with very basic tools, accommodating eight to ten workers, to a 2300 square foot facility able to accommodate up to 15 wood artisans working at one time.  The facility is now equipped with a state-of-the-art dust control system, machinery, and tools that allow a worker to complete almost any project desired, from simple joinery to sophisticated lathe projects.

The Woodshop Club has been active in contributing to Country Roads throughout the years.  Previously they built and help maintain cupboards, shelves, enclosures for various locations in the common areas.  The club prioritizes safety and recently added a room to the south end of the shop to make the facility a safer, more efficient environment. Many of our club members have donated various handcrafted items to various clubs and committees for fundraising.

Members of the Woodshop Club are entitled to unlimited use of the facilities during regular operating hours during the regular season (November through March).  They welcome any Country Roads resident to make use of the excellent facility either for a daily fee or a yearly membership fee which covers shop supplies and maintenance.  Club members have a wealth of experience and knowledge which they are willing to share with anyone interested.  Monitors are always present for safety and guidance.

Please come and have a look at the wonderful facility we have in our park and inquire about classes in bowls, charcuterie boards, pens, and more.
